I’m in Like With You is a new site (who’s founder’s getting loads of fire on Valleywag) for dating. Or flirting. Or you name it.
It has a new concept of doing so, enabling the users to “play” with each other (in the innocent way people, what did you think?!) and thus break the ice and possibly create relationships of all sorts.
It’s worth reading Seth Godin’s post about the site. Godin drew some interesting conclusions, but if you ask me, are too far reaching:
“there’s a generation that has absolutely no patience for the interfaces you and I love…”
and:
“teenager you’re trying to market to is ignoring you and she’s on this site instead…”
I think the case is much more simple. The site is just designed as a game board. That’s all.
All the sounds, the colors, the layout - are aspired from board and console games (judging from the blips new user’s pop-ups are making, the designers had Pinball machines in mind). And it’s all done using Flash, so that’s where all the bells and whistles come from. The easy way. Give a designer the freedom to use Flash and create a game - and Voila! That’s what you’ll get.
It’s all about winning a game (note the dual meaning here - “game” as in “hunting” prize. It is, after all, a dating site….). Hence, I wouldn’t draw conclusions as to the way the “new generation” is to be marketed to. I would, on the other hand, do that from the way Twitter conversations look like, but this is a matter for another post…
